Alias/Title: Professor.
Series: Final Fantasy VII.

History:
Hojo was the head of the Science Department at Shinra Inc. for a great many years, working on ethically questionable projects away from the public eye and under President Shinra Sr.'s scrutiny. Approximately thirty two years prior to the present date, he was sent to Nibelheim on Gaia to assist Professor Gast and Lucrecia with the Jenova Project. The project was run under the mistaken belief that Jenova was a Cetra, and Gast intended to use her to create humans with the abilities of the Cetra. Lucrecia and Hojo's unborn child became the subject of experimentation, with both parents willing.
Vincent Valentine, the son of a man Lucrecia had once been very close to, objected to the experimentation. Hojo shot Vincent and consequently experimented on him, eventually leaving him for dead. He would go on to experiment on others such as Cloud, Zack, Red XIII and Veld's daughter, with an attempt to experiment on Aerith.
With the success of the experiment on the child, Hojo later began to inject himself with the Jenova cells in an effort to become a super-being. However, Jenova overwhelmed him and he mutated into a monster. Craving to see Sephiroth reach his final stage of development, he assisted him in trying to retrieve the power of Gaia. During his attempt, AVALANCHE mortally wounded him.
Left for dead, Hojo in fact managed to upload his mind into the World Network as a backup before it could be destroyed. When Hojo died, his soul was unable to be assimilated by the Planet due to the experiments he had conducted on himself, and so instead the essence of his soul was absorbed into Sephiroth.
Due to Meteorfall the World Network was fractured; his mind was fragmented, and it was in this same state two years later when Jenova won the battle against Cloud, and consumed the planet.
However, these fragments have been retrieved from the World Network and Hojo has been returned to life - though how, why and by whom has yet to become clear.


Personality: In life, he was a madman with a God Complex who took great delight in doing experiments on his 'specimens' - often humans or other sentient life - for the sake of it, rather than any real necessity. To him, it was all a way of unlocking secrets and creating more and more perfect beings. His ultimate desire was to become a super-being, a god-like figure with the power of Jenova.
Though still as demented and mentally warped as ever, recent events and his own resurrection may give rise to a different side of Hojo's behaviour. His laboratory and his equipment is gone, and he may be forced to find a new purpose and reason for his renewed existence - even if it's purely to solve the new mysteries that the circumstances have provided.
Hojo behaves with an emotional detachment to the suffering of others and to disasters; if it interests him, no doubt it is on a basis of curiosity, scientific or otherwise. He has no patience for mundane subjects, and small talk is as alien to him as human rights; he likes his discussions to have a purpose, or he won't waste his breath.
He is not without emotion, though he's rare to express anything impulsive or genuine. He has the air of a man who is both reserved and carefully self-monitored. He's quite free to express amusement and annoyance - typically when he comes into conflict with others, and is feeling particularly arrogant and belligerant - but it is always with a very distanced control. When he does get excited, he can be manic, impulsive, and a more immediate threat than he normally represents.
He is most stimulated by the unknown, and sees any mystery as something that can be solved with science. Naturally, with his ego, he assumes he is surely the man to do it.
His history with Lucrecia indicates both a sex drive and possibility that, at one point, he may have been capable of love.


Appearance:






Hojo is a spindly-figured, heavily slouching man who, when standing straight, is 5'7". He is not a terribly imposing figure, but he makes up for it with his overall appearance. His face is gaunt, with a long forehead, deep frown lines and sharp features. His expression is ever-intense and studious, with wire-rimmed glasses propped on his nose and light wisps of dark hair framing his face. The rest is pulled back into a ponytail. His smile is extremely menacing and toothy, and his skin an unnaturally waxy, pallor colour. He looks to be in his 50's, and has Wutaian features.


Abilities: Due to his experiments Hojo had the ability to take on different, monstrous shapes. However, it is unknown whether he has retained this ability in his new body. He has a great understanding of science and genetics, and has the ability to create mutants given the right materials.
